This map grants a historical overview of the Dutch possession in North
and South America as well as Ghana. It belongs to Hettema’s fourth edition of the De Grote Historische Schoolatlas or The Grand Historical School Atlas from 1905. The main attention is given to the history of current colonies in the Caribbean and Suriname. Previous colonies in Brasil, North-America and Ghana are drawn in the lower left corner. A modern map of New York is also provided. The map is supposed to be coloured as the annotation at the lower centre of the map reminds us.
