Map of plantations between the Berbice and Sinamari River

Maas, Abraham / Leth, Hendrik de

Title Leupe: “Kaart van de Kust tusschen Berbice en Cayenne.”

The main map shows the area between the Sinamari and Berbice Rivers, the insert map on the upper left gives an indication of the location of this area, and the one below it displays the city of Paramaribo. The latter map mentions all street names and main buildings of the town. The main map provides the names of about 350 existing plantations and 50 lots around the mouth of the Commewijne River set to be cultivated. On the left and right sides of the map, elaborate indices can be found of the plantations owners. The surrounding uncultivated lands are defined by their relief, the names of savannahs and a small amount of villages. Next to a settlement of Indians, note the fugitive villages of rebel slaves which are drawn as several houses with smoke on top of them. These fugitive villages can be found up the Cottica Creek just below the insert map of Paramaribo.

Both a coloured and black and white version are available.

North is below.
