Design for a spy tower to be used in the extension of Willemstad
Esdré, Godfried Carel
Title Leupe: Afteekening van een zeshoekig gemetseld schilderhuis, der embrasuurgaten enz.
This design for a spy tower is part of the extension of Willemstad. The tower is a prototype which will be used for the three bastions and the battery which will be renovated or built around the city. In addition, a ground plan and profile of the barricades around the battery is shown below. These designs crown the plans made by Willem Meijer in 1746 to move the town wall further east from Fort Amsterdam than originally thought safe. The distance of the town from the fort required these improved defences.
Scale-bar of 48 Rhineland feet = 126 ‘strepen’.
