The church in the village of Mallakam was never completed by the Portuguese, who established themselves on Ceylon prior to the arrival before the arrival of the VOC. After conquering the area in 1658 the Company finished it and turned it into a Protestant church. However, Protestantism failed to take root in the area: the congregation remained small and religious education in the local school was not very successful. The compilers of this database have not as yet come across a source in the literature that identifies this location as a VOC post.
