Asaudi was a settlement on Hoamoal (Western Seram), a clove-producing region ruled by the kimelaha, the leader of Hoamoal with whom the VOC was periodically in conflict. Asaudi periodically sent out raids against the allies of the VOC in the region, and in response, was attacked and destroyed by the VOC several times over the early 17th century. During the Great Ambon War (1651-1656) it was the center of resistance against the VOC, and a base for the Makasar allies of the kimelaha, for an extended period. In July 1655, the VOC conquered it after a long deliberate strategy of starving the region. At the end of the war, the entire peninsula was depopulated, and the people living there forced to relocate.
