The illustration has been taken from Olfert Dapper: 'Gedenkwaerdig bedryf der Nederlandsche Oost-Indische Maetschappye, op de kuste en in het keizerrijk van Taising of Sina', Amsterdam 1670. However, according to the inscription the print, has been taken from a work by Montanus.
