View of Bato Tulis near Buitenzorg
Rach, Johannes
View of Bato Tulis near Buitenzorg; three statues, their arms folded, near a sacrificial site.
These ceremonial stones were mounted on the west bank of the Ciliwung river. They are remnants of the Pajajaran kingdom. The story goes that some would not convert to Islam and were then turned to stone. Anno 2002 the statues can still be viewed on the Jl. Batu Tulis, in the south of Bogor.
The stones were a popular tourist attraction for Rach's contemporaries
