Laäla

Laala was a settlement on Hoamoal (Western Seram), a clove-producing region ruled by the kimelaha, de ruler of Hoamoal with whom the VOC was periodically in conflict. At the beginning of the Great Ambon War (1651-1656) the VOC's wooden fortification near Laala was taken in a suprise attack. During the subsequent conflict, Laala was heavily fortified with Makasar help. After a siege in September 1654, it was, however, taken in a brutal manner. After the end of the war, the entire peninsula was depopulated and its inhabitants forced to resettle elsewhere.
