Hogenborg, P.E. van / Bronnekan, D. / Brossette, P.
Title Leupe: Kaart van de gewijzigde grensscheiding tussen het Nederlandse grondgebied en dat van de inwoners van Triplivanum onder Paliakatte.
This map of the region south of Pulicat shows the land divisions drawn between the residents of Triplicane and the Dutch government in the year 1793. To clarify this division to both parties this map contains annotations in Dutch as well as Tamil. Ten years before the division the British army occupied large part of the Coromandel coast for four years. With the onset of the Napoleonic wars after 1793 the influence of Great-Britain in South India increased again. Only in 1818 did this piece of land return to Dutch hands. To maintain their administration over Coromandel, former land division were reinstituted in the years after 1818. This map was copied in 1819 for this purpose as well. Nonetheless, the British forces returned in 1825 to banish the Dutch from the South-Asian penisula for good.
Scale-bar of 160 Rhineland Rods.
