Map of the bays around Cape Town
Anoniem / Anonymous / Loots, Johannes
Title Leupe: "Kaart van het Kaapland tot voorbij de Tafelbaai, rekenende van de Saldanhabaai af. Met een overzicht van de in het binnenland gelegen gehuchten."
Entering the Table Bay required knowledge of the shallows and rocks there. These obtsacles are depicted with crosses and dots on this map. The Saldanha Bay was a safer alternative and the mapmaker noted several soundings there to aid navigation. Rivers and settlements are also drawn. The compass lines were printed by Johannes Loots in Amsterdam and the drawing thus most likely stems from the early eighteenth century.
North is left.
Scale-bar ± 1 : 300.000.
