View of the Cape of Good Hope with the heroic Woltemade and the vessel 'De Jonge Thomas'

According to the catalogue of Frederik Muller: Heldendood van Woltemade, veeopzigter aan de Kaap de Goede Hoop, circa 65 jaar oud, die met zijn paard 14 schipbreukelingen van: De jonge Thomas redde. (Nederl. Jaarb. 1775. bl.1121).
A scene of a stormy sea with on the right a mountainous coast. Left in the sea the wreck of the vessel 'D'Jonge Thomas' with still a few people on board. In the centre a man on horseback in the surf with close to him three people in the sea. To the right another three people holding fast to a piece of wreckage in the waves. On the beach, to the right, people look out to sea with behind them buildings and a fort against the backdrop of Table Mountain. The ship 'D'Jonge Thomas' bears the coat of arms of the city of Amsterdam.
