The Dutch fleet is attacked on the Bantam roadstead (1596)
Anoniem / Anonymous / Langenes, Barent
The Dutch fleet is attacked on the Bantam roadstead (1596). - During this first visit to Bantam - partly as a result of Dutch tactlessness - there was a great deal of discord between the Dutch and the Portuguese and Javanese. This plate shows the vessel the 'Duyfken' being attacked and part of its crew being taken prisoner. After intense and intricate negotiations with the Javanese, these crew members were released.
