Map of Tobago
Jefferys, Thomas / Sayer, Robert / Ross, David
Title Leupe: Tobago, from actual surveys and observations.
This map of Tobago is based on a survey by Jefferys himself and includes two insert maps by David Ross of the Great Bay and the Man of War Bay. It was printed posthumously after Jefferys died in 1771. The publishers Sayer and Bennet compiled Jefferys's manuscripts and were thus able to prepare three atlases in 1775; a minor and major overview of the West Indies and a collection of maps of North America. This is one of the charts of the seventeen islands in the West Indies which were printed in both the major and minor atlas on this region. The atlases became quite popular and were reprinted many times. The map shows administrative subdivisions, indigenous villages, ports, forts, rocks, shoals, anchorages, relief and soundings.
North is up.
