The town of Veere

The expedition was financed by the Company of Moucheron, led by merchant Balthasar de Moucheron along with other merchants of the town of Veere in Zealand. De Moucheron had been very active in previous years with financing expeditions to Africa and the East Indies. His expensive endeavours, however, did not gain him the profits he sought for. He became heavily indebted and even before the expedition of Joris van Spilbergen returned he fled the country to France. This image is a depiction of the town of Veere.
