Map of the coas of Tuban
Laerle, Joris Joostensz.
After spending several months at the Banda islands, the Moluccan fleet of the Fifth Expedition returned to Java in June 1602, which they reached in July after sailing through the Strait of Selayar. From 7 July to 13 July they stayed at the city of Tuban. They handed the king gifts from Stadholder Maurits and tried to establish diplomatic relations. This depiction of Tuban and surrounding areas was made by Joris Joostensz. Laerle in the journal of the Gelderland. The text says that this shows the anchorage at Tubon. To the left it says ‘The city Sidayu (“Eidaio”) and on the right “The city Tuban”.
