Coastline profile of Enggano, near Sumatra

In the final days of 1598, several ships of the Second Expedition (Tweede Schipvaart) passed the island of Enggano to the southwest of Sumatra. This island was, according to helmsman Heyndrick Dirrecksen Jolinck of the Vriesland, regularly mistaken for the Sumatran mainland by Europeans. He drew this coastline profile of the island, which he here calls ‘Ilha de Ingano’, when it is about 5 miles from the observer in east by south and southern direction.
