Map of part of the West-Souborg Plantation
Osterlin, Philippus Marcus
Title Leupe: Plaan van het bovengedeelte van de Ed. Comps. Plantage West-Soeburg enz.
This is a map of part of the Society’s plantation West-Souburg, situated on both banks of the main river approximately half way between Fort Nassau and the mouth of the Wiruni River and the private plantation Sint Jan on the Canje.
Part of a series of maps, ground plans and drawings of buildings and other objects from around the year 1752 which can be attributed to the land surveyor and engineer Philippus Marcus Osterlin. The map covers only the ‘Upper Section’ of West-Souburg, that is to say, the parcels furthest upriver. Also see VEL1592 and VEL1593.
Confusingly the orientation of this detail map has been inverted in relation to the overview map and the scale is incorrect: rather than Rhenish feet it should be Rhenish rods or perches. In the subtitle reference is made to an earlier survey made by the surveyor Leonard van der Pijpen, (see VEL1579).
North is lower right.
Scale-bar of 210 Voeten [Roeden] Rhijnlands = [approximately 1 : 5,100].
