Map of the land between the coast and the Cottica River

Böhm, Johann Gottfried Rabanus

Title Leupe: Kaart van de geprojecteerde te vergeeven Biribirielanden, langs het gedolven kanaal tusschen Post Oranien en Vreedenburg (beide oevers).

This map show part of the area between the sea coast and the Cottica east of the Tapoeripa Canal, most of which was only reclaimed after c. 1785.

The map is a plan for cultivating new lands along the Oranje Creek; the excavated debouchement of La Paix Creek on which the military posts Oranje and Vredenburg were located

All twelve planned lots are 500 Surinamese acres (215 hectares) and are situated between the Oranien and Vreedenburg post for protection.

The plan was afterwards executed nearly exactly as projected on this map.

The land surveyor signed the map of 28 September 1792.

Scale of 150 Chains of 66 Rhineland feet = 185 ‘strepen’.

Taken from: missive of the Gov.-Gen. on 12 Nov. 1792 and the council members on 12 jun. 1793.
