Map of the new vacant lots near the Matapica creek
This map shows used and newly planned lots north of the Matapica Creek (not visible).
This survey has been requested by George Hendrick de Wilde from Nieuw Amsterdam to show his newly obtained lands are legitimate and do not hinder others.
The survey has been completed but the information obtained from the text on the right side of the map (Extent, Border indicators A-C etc.) is not reflected on the map itself which only shows empty lots and the newly dug canal.
The first land assignments in this area were made shortly before the middle of the eighteenth century.
The reclamation of the low-lying parts farther from the river began before c. 1757, starting along Warapa and Marapica Creeks, for which purpose however a system of drainage and supply channels had to be constructed.
Scale of 150 Chains of 66 Rhineland feet = 180 ‘strepen’.
