The map was later reproduced in Joan Blaeu's 'Atlas Maior' (1665).
Depicted on the map is how the fleet led by Johan Maurits van Nassau-Siegen sailed into the bay in 1638 in an attempt to capture the city of Salvador from the Portuguese. However, the Dutch did not succeed. In 1624 and 1625 the city was held for several months by the WIC (the Dutch West India Company).
