According to several sources, this island was the location of a Dutch fort called Nassau. Due to the changing course of the river and contradictory cartographic evidence, the location of this island cannot be ascertained. However, on Van Meurs' map of Guyana (Koninklijke Bibliotheek 185 B 14 deel II, na p. 528), the region at the confluence of the Xingu and the Amazon Rivers is called 'Cogemine'.
