The clergyman Baldaeus led the congregations of northern Ceylon. He left a detailed description of his parish. He described the inhabitants of Tellippalai, once known as Telipole, as being keenly interested in the Christian religion. In 1658 the church at Tellippalai was the venue for Baldaeus's first sermon in Ceylon. The church had a theatre attached. The compilers of this database have not as yet come across a source in the literature that identifies this location as a VOC post.
