Tampakam, once known as Tambamme, was home to one of the VOC churches. The Company employed many clergymen who preached the faith in what were often the most rudimentary of churches. The VOC awarded so-called disciple money to preachers for every soul they managed to convert to Christianity. Little attention was paid to how genuine their faith was. The compilers of this database have not as yet come across a source in the literature that identifies this location as a VOC post.
