Puloppalai was home to one of the VOC churches. Throughout the 17th century the Company was in a constant state of war with the king of Ceylon. Because of the proximity of the frontier with the king's territory the church was built more in the fashion of a fort. To the right was a building housing a school. Puloppalai provided wood for export. The compilers of this database have not as yet come across a source in the literature that identifies this location as a VOC post.
