Kelang is one of the places visited by Balthasar Bort during his expedition of 1662-1668 against the warlord coxinga. The VOC hoped that a successful campaign would lead to the Chinese emperor granting them the favour of being allowed to open a trading post in China. The emperor was involved in difficulties with Coxinga, and the VOC aided him.
