View of the Amsterdam gate from the north
Rach, Johannes
View of the Amsterdam gate from the north, seen from the inner courtyard of the castle. The road leading from the gate is now (in 2002) named Jalan Tongkol.
To the left an execution; hence the huge crowds about the scaffold. Some rich observers view the spectacle from the comfort of their carriage. In the foreground sellers of snacks and drinks are shown.
The alcoves flanking the entrance hold statues of Mars and Minerva. The clock over the gate shows a time of ten past six.
