Tangalla

The Tangale settlement was favourably situated on the island's southern coast and was frequently used for loading products such as rice. A fort and a church were built at Tangale in 1775. This small VOC settlement played a key role during the Sinhalese uprising of 1760 against the Dutch authorities on the south of the island.
