Ocean view of the fortifications of the city of Surat.

In the foreground are three East Indiamen, several smaller sailing vessels and a rowboat. To the right of centre a crocodile is depicted.

The cannon are just visible on the parapet of the fort.

Vingboons draws the same location, though on his watercolor it is not the city of Surat that is depicted, but Visiapour, cf. Nationaal Archief, inv.nr. VELH0619.105.
