Collision between two ships, 6 August 1595

Two of the expedition ships, identified as the Gouden Windhond, which carried Barentsz and Heemskerck, and the ‘ship of the Vice Admiral’ (i.e. the Hoop, a ship from Enkhuizen led by Brant IJsbrants, which also carried Van Linschoten), collide in bad weather. In the water we see four drowning men; on the left, a fifth man is thrown a rope from another ship, the Rotterdam. Indeed, the journal mentions how four man drowned as a result of the collision, with a fifth one being saved.
