Chart of ports at the north coast of Hispaniola

Title Leupe: Caert van Porte St. Francisco, gelegen aen de Noortzy van Espanola. This map from the workshop of Johannes Vingboons was based on a map by Hessel Gerritsz dating from c. 1630. Gerritsz drew several maps of the ports on Hispaniola. These show much variation between them, which was likely the result of Gerritsz’ use of charts and descriptions from different ship’s logs. Here the old St. Francisco and Margon ports are depicted as well as the settlements Boùrges and Camp de Louise.
