Defence plan for Suriname

These drawings by N. Robaté are part of a series constituting a plan for the improvement of Surinam's defences. Plan 6 is depicted here and this concerns a design to increase the range of fire of the artillery on fortresses. The drawing at the upper left shows the layout and, in particular, the slot which can be used to turn the cannon. At the lower right a profile is drawn in which weights are used to aim the cannon up or down. An elaborate report of Robaté found under the same inventory number provides more details on these plans.
