Keraton Surakarta measuring approximately 500 x 600 meter within the walls of the palace and is inhabited by 15,000 people. There are two walls which separate the inside (palace) and the other palace buildings. The cepuri or inner wall and the baluwarti or outer wall. The space between both walls was the living area of the princes who occupied positions in the government.
At present it is a tourist spot.
