This is a copy of the fortification designs for Demerara that were probably made in 1779 by the engineer and building inspector, Carl Christiaan Kanne.
This copy is edited to display how the walls can be strengthened.
The range of the cannons is indicated with dotted lines, further details on the batteries are provided in the annotations.
A profile of the walls is displayed at the bottom of the map.
An alternative version, VEL1558B1, is kept in the Dutch National Archive.
