The church built by the Portuguese at Navatcouli was subsequently used by the Company as a base from which to spread the Protestant faith among the local inhabitants. In the church hall religious education was given. Education and religion were used by the VOC to gain the loyalty of the local people. The Company also had sufficient military superiority to ensure that its authority was respected. The compilers of this database have not as yet come across a source in the literature that identifies this location as a VOC post.
