San Thome lay on the Coromandel Coast. The Portuguese had a long-established presence here, for out of San Thome and Nagapatnam they were in a position to control the entire Coromandel Coast. San Thome subsequently fell under the king of Golconda, and later, in 1669, the Dutch took over. Even so, the town itself was subject to Portuguese influences for some considerable time. The compilers of this database have not as yet come across a source in the literature that identifies this location as a VOC post.
