Gollepallem was a village where the VOC maintained its own warehouse, leased from the local ruler. Here the woven cloth produced in the surrounding villages was bleached. For this reason Pieter van Dam, whose history of the VOC was published in 1701, referred to Gollepallem as a laundry village.
