Malda, situated south east of Ragiamahal, produced fine 'lijnwaten' or cotton stuffs. The VOC abandoned its trading post here relatively quickly as it was beset by problems such as the poor relations with the local authorities and the substandard accommodation. In addition it transpired that the fine cotton stuffs could also be obtained in Hougly.
