The fort of Loki on Ceram was captured and destroyed in 1652 by VOC troops led by Arnold de Vlamingh van Outshoorn. This conquest formed part of the "Amboinsche oorlogen" waged between the VOC and the Moluccans during the period 1651 to 1656. In order to protect its monopoly the VOC attacked villages where the local population grew their own cloves.
