View of Buitenzorg
Rach, Johannes
View of Buitenzorg, known today (in 2002) as Istana Bogor.
Two villas, each measuring 30 by 15 metres, can be seen behind a little fort, Fort Philippine, which housed a garrison of 16 soldiers.
The original intention was to link the two wings by building a central part, however none of the 18th century owners carried out the work.
The villas were probably commissioned by governor general Van der Parra. A previous governor general, Van Imhoff, had earlier had a villa built, but this was destroyed in the war against the king of Bantam in 1752.
The governor general resided on the right, on the left was a church.
In Rach's time the estate measured 236 square kilometres.
