Islamic wedding ceremony in Batavia

Scene in tent, wedding ceremony at Batavia. The print is from Wouter Schouten's Oost-Indische Voyagie (1676). In the accompanying passage in the book, he describes the elaborate ceremonies the marriage of what he describes as "a rich Moor" (i.e. a Muslim of Arab or Indian descent). Pictured is the moment when the bride, carried by her father on her back, is presented to the groom, who stands behind the cloth, flanked by two groomsmen.
