Plan for closing the estuary of the Surinam river in times of war
Anoniem / Anonymous
Title Leupe: Schetsplan van de verdediging van de rivier Suriname tot aan de fortress Zeelandia, en van den mond der Commowyne.
This map shows the ‘obstruction plan’, the closure of the estuary of the Surinam River in time of war, which was worked out in detail during and after the Fourth Anglo-Dutch War, using the set-up which was first improvised in 1781-1782.
This overview of the estuary draws the defensive frontier through anchors and triangles between the redoubts Purmerend and Leyden.
Gunships lay behind this frontier.
Note the frontier is drawn closer to the mouth of the Commewijne and Suriname river than on one of the other maps of the estuary (VEL2005).
Scale-bar of 60 Chains = 130 ‘strepen’.
