Map of the plantations north of the Commewijne river
Helleday, Adrianus Hendricus
Title Leupe: Generaale kaart van de Noordzyde der Beneden rivier Commewyne, van Braamspunt af tot de laatste plantagie in de Warappe Creque enz..
This map shows the lots and their hinterlands laying north of the Commewijne river.
The scope ranges from the western (left on the map) coast near the Bramspunt to the Livonia plantation located to the northeast (right above on the map) inside the Warapa Creek.
The lots are designated and the hinterlands measured in Surinamese acres (1 Surinamese acre is equal to 0,43 hectares).
The distance between the Commewijne river and the northern coast is measured on thee spots (A-B, C-D en E-F) in preparation of expansion of the cultivated ground which is elaborated further in the maps VEL 1850 t/m 1854.
This map emphasizes the wild woods laying between the lots and the northern coast, but does not depict the reclamation projects or the planned land assignments which are more clearly shown on the other maps from the same series.
The Nieuw Amsterdam fortress and the Leyde and Purmerend redoubts as well as the Hoer Helena, Matapica and Warapa Creek are depicted for orientation.
The map is measured and drawn in December 1770.
Scale of 500 Chains of 66 Rhineland Feet = 230 ‘strepen’.
