Title Leupe: Generaale Caart van de Geoctr. Colonie de Berbice, rivieren en districten met al de daarin gelegene plantagies, gronden en vaarbare kreken enz.

This map followed the rejection of the proposal of De Veije from 1764 (VEL1571).

In 1769 the directors decided to retain Fort Nassau as the main settlement after all, and consequently on this 1772 general map of Berbice by the land surveyor J.H. Hagen, which is copied from a map that was published by the Van Keulen firm in 1771 and made by his colleague Christiaan Frederik Theodosius Cederkreutz who originated from Sweden, there is no reference whatsoever to De Veije’s plans.

The location and quantity of plantation appears copied from De Veije’s map.

North is upper right.

Scale-bar of 3800 Rhineland rods of 2 German miles of 15 for one degree = [approximately 1 : 107,000].

(Continuation of the title, left): Rivieren en districten Med al de darin gelegene Plantagies Gronden en Vaarbaare Kreken Beginnende in Rio Berbice van Booven med de Plantagie de Acowayese Vriendschap en eindige med de Plantagie Gelderland. In Rio Canje med de Plantagie Bajonne van boven. En Eindigende Med de Plantagie Blyendaal Beneden. (A key to the plantations on the River Berbice numbered 1 to 161, not transcribed, and a note, lower left): Onder de Ed: Colonie Plantagies, worden Cultiveert Savonette, Cornelia Jacoba, Vlissingen, Johanna, Goede Hoop & Dageraad. Syn Verlaaten Oost Souburg, Markaij, West Souburg, Pereboom. NB: Onder N:o 100 in de Caart staad de goede hoop maar moet staan de Eendragt, en in plek van de Eendragt moet staan de goede Hoop. (A key to the plantations on the Canje River numbered 1 to 79, not transcribed, and a note, lower right) : NB: N:o 73 staad Providence, moet sijn gelyk hier in ’t Renwoij staad.
