This map of Santa Cruz Bay, made in 1754 by S. Geerts, shows that a decade after the resolution by the States-General to significantly improve the defenses of Curaçao, nothing much has happened in this particular location. The fort and nearby retrenchements are merely projected. The urgency to build new defences is stressed by a note next to a beach at the bottom right of the map, which reminds the reader of the corsairs landing at that spot in 1713.
