The city Surat

In the spring of 1629, Pieter van den Broecke left Surat for good. He had been director there from 1620 to 1628. According to his retelling, the governor of Surat and his nobles, they were very saddened by his departure. In this image we see the city of Suratte and its harbour. At the back we see a busy port full of smaller and larger ships. Behind it lies the city itself. At the foreground people are busy with various activities.
