Views of the coast around Acapulco and the island of Guam

Scheyndel, Gilles van

Above, the print shows the coast around Acapulco, where the Nassau fleet vainly waited the arrival of the ships from Manila in November 1624. The image below shows us the island of Guam, one of the Marianas – here called Guagan, part of the Ladrones Islands. The ships arrived on this island towards the west of the Pacific on 25 January 1625, and through barter were able to obtain generous amounts of coconut, rice, fresh water and other replenishments, before continuing on their way on 11 February.
