Nightly attack on Spanish ships at Callao, 11 May 1624

The image shows how Dutch boats mount a night attack on Spanish merchant ships lying at anchor. On land, we see the Spanish defences firing at the boats, as well as soldiers rushing towards the scene. On the coast we see the Spanish ships burning – according to the published journal, 30 or 40 were destroyed. In the background Callao and its main landmarks; in the foreground the Nassau Fleet.
