Map of the northern hemisphere in polar projection
Veer, Gerrit de
The map shows the northern hemisphere with the north pole in the center. The arctic continent, consisting of four parts, which was generally assumed to exist at the time, is visible. The A shows the geographical north pole; D the magnetic north pole.
From the Wahrhafftige Relation, the German version of Gerrit de Veer’s journal, published in 1598. (See under ‘documentation’ for details.)
