Clearing a passage for the boats, June 1597
Veer, Gerrit de
On the 12th of June, a passage was cleared from he Safe House to be able to bring the boats and supplies to the sea. A polar bear attack taking place that day is also depicted. In the background the safe house, which is now missing a sizable number of planks, used to reinforce the boats and raise their boards.
From the Wahrhafftige Relation, the German version of Gerrit de Veer’s journal, published in 1598. (See under ‘documentation’ for details.)
