Map of Ferdonando d'Noronho Island

This map resembles the one made of the same island by the Amsterdam cartographer Isaak de Graaf and inserted into his Atlas Amsterdam, the large and general atlas of the trade zone of the United Dutch East India Company which was produced around 1695 by order of the Gentlemen XVII. The rendition shown here probably concerns a more decorative copy of de Graaf’s map made for a collector long after the Atlas Amsterdam was published. The decorations include coloured rhumb and shore lines and trees.
